Stable institutions, accountable and good governance are a key to a well functioning society and are increasingly recognized as essential to broad-based and sustainable socioeconomic development. Stability and steady economic and social growth depend upon structures of good governance including transparent and accountable state institutions as well as an actively engaged civil society. Promotion and application of international and transparent standards are the underpinnings of democratic and good governance. Actovian's approach to Governance & Institutional Development aims at strengthening emerging democratic institutions, improving government responsiveness, transparency, and accountability at all levels. With the help of the host nation we promote civic awareness and participation in governance.
Our work in Governance & Institutional Development area typically addresses four broad sets of strategic challenges: clarifying the objectives of the effort; developing strategies to pursue it; aligning financial and organizational resources to implement it; and defining sound performance measures to assess impact. Our work centers around framing the key questions, bringing data, analysis and expertise to bear on those questions, facilitating value-based discussion about important strategic and institutional choices, and laying out an implementation plan.
We work with governments, nongovernmental organizations, academia and the private sector to develop and support judicial systems, strengthen civil society, create a clear and enforceable policy environment, promote good governance, and emphasize accountability and transparency. We also assist and advise local governments to understand and prioritize citizen demands, and create innovative and cost-conscious approaches to improving governance at all levels. We transfer the required knowledge, skills and systems to key stakeholders enabling improved policy- and decision-making and responsible partnerships between citizens and governments. When successful, it creates the basis for economic and societal growth. We seek to ensure that our efforts foster a host nation environment that respects individual liberty, guarantees transparent government institutions, and gives the average individual a real voice in his or her future regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, familial origin, political affiliation, personal opinion, or economic status.
